If you’re seeing an error that your phone number has already been used while connecting your bank accounts, there are two likely causes.
1. An active NerdWallet account is already using that number.
2. The maximum of two total NerdWallet accounts with that number has already been reached.
Already in use on an active account
For security reasons, a particular phone number can only be associated with one active NerdWallet account and up to one other closed NerdWallet account. If there is already an active NerdWallet account using the phone number and you’d like to close it, you can find step-by-step instructions to do that here.
Already used with two accounts
If you’ve already used the phone number in question with two NerdWallet accounts, you’ll need to use a different phone number to sign up. The number must be a US number supplied by a standard phone carrier. Please note that online call forwarding numbers, such as Google Voice numbers, won’t work.
