Refresh Bank Account Information

Your NerdWallet account is designed to provide up-to-date information about your linked financial accounts, including balances and transactions. This information typically updates automatically about once every 24 hours.

If your account information appears out of date, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Allow time for your account to update

Your linked account balances and transactions generally update in NerdWallet about once every 24 hours. If the information was updated within the past 24 hours, we recommend waiting for the next automatic update before taking further action.

Step 2: Check whether your account needs attention

If your account hasn't updated in more than 24 hours, check your NerdWallet account for a message indicating that the connection needs attention.

If you see Fix connection, Reconnect, or another prompt to update your connection, follow the on-screen instructions. You may be asked to sign in to your financial institution again or complete another authentication step. Completing this process allows NerdWallet to restore the existing connection when possible without removing the linked account or its existing history.

Step 3: Contact us if your information is still incorrect

If you've completed any available connection prompts and your balance or other account information is still incorrect, please contact NerdWallet Support so we can investigate.

When contacting us, please provide: • The name of your financial institution • The specific account that's showing incorrect or outdated information • The last sync date displayed for the account in the Net worth section • A description of what appears to be incorrect

Screenshots can also be helpful. If possible, include a screenshot showing the incorrect information in NerdWallet and one showing the current information from your financial institution.

For security reasons, our Support team has a limited view of your financial information. Providing these details can help us investigate the issue and, when necessary, escalate it to our third-party account-linking partner.

Should I unlink and relink my account?

We don't recommend unlinking and relinking an account as a first troubleshooting step for an outdated balance, missing transactions, or an unexpected change to your net worth.

Unlinking an account removes its existing connection to NerdWallet. If you later link the account again, we can only recover the historical transactions your financial institution provides. This can result in:

  • Permanent loss of historical data associated with the previously linked account

  • Changes to your historical net worth graph, including changes to previously displayed net worth values

  • Missing transaction or spending history

  • Duplicate accounts or transactions

  • Loss of some account-specific settings

Historical data lost as a result of unlinking and relinking can't be restored.

If NerdWallet is prompting you to fix or reconnect an existing connection, follow that process instead of manually unlinking the account.

If you've completed the available troubleshooting steps and your information is still incorrect, contact NerdWallet Support via our chat modal so we can investigate.

What if the issue is caused by a third-party outage?

Some sync failures are caused by issues on the side of our account-linking partner or your financial institution — not by anything in your NerdWallet account. These can include temporary outages, institution-specific technical problems, or ongoing data migrations.

If your account has been out of sync for several days with no Fix connection prompt and following the steps above hasn't resolved the issue, this may be the cause. You can check the Plaid status page at dashboard.plaid.com/activity/status to see whether your institution has an active notice. If it does, no action on your end will resolve it — the only option is to wait for the third-party fix and monitor the status page for updates.

What if my bank was acquired or merged with another institution?

When a financial institution is acquired by or migrated to a new institution, your existing linked account connection may stop syncing or behave unexpectedly. In this case:

  • Link the new institution as a separate account so current balances and transactions resume syncing.

  • Rather than unlinking the old account, consider hiding it from your net worth calculations (without deleting it) so your historical transaction data remains visible.

  • If duplicate transactions appear, you can hide individual transactions from spending calculations using the Hide from calculations option on each transaction.

What if my net worth still looks wrong after troubleshooting?

If your net worth appears incorrect and you've completed all available troubleshooting steps — including following any Fix connection or Reconnect prompts and waiting 24 hours — the issue may be a product-level display or calculation problem rather than a sync delay. In these cases, contact NerdWallet Support with details of what you're seeing.

Does this apply to NerdWallet Cash Account or investment account deposits?

This article covers sync issues with externally linked financial accounts — such as bank accounts, credit cards, or investment accounts linked through our account-linking partner. If you're expecting a deposit into your NerdWallet Cash Account (such as a direct deposit or transfer), or if you have a question about an Atomic investment account balance, those work differently. Please contact NerdWallet Support for help with those products.
