I’m seeing a transaction that I didn’t make in my account. Why is this showing up?

If a transaction looks unfamiliar, in most cases there's a simple explanation — and we're here to help you sort it out.

If you've linked a financial institution to NerdWallet: The transaction data you see comes directly from your linked financial institution. Start by checking the transaction on your institution's own website or app. If it appears there and you don't recognize it, contact your financial institution directly, as they're best equipped to investigate and resolve unauthorized charges.

If you're new to NerdWallet and haven't linked an account yet: You may be looking at sample transaction data we use to show how the product works — these appear under placeholder merchant names like "Nerdy Electric," "T-Nerd Phones," or "Nerdcast Cable." These aren't real charges and nothing to worry about. Once you link a real financial institution, sample data is replaced with your actual transactions.
