When you use NerdWallet's loan comparison or pre-qualification tools, you share personal and financial information so NerdWallet can match you with relevant offers from its lending partners. This article explains what's shared, who receives it, and your options.
What information is shared
To match you with loan offers, NerdWallet collects and shares information including:
Your name, address, and contact information (phone number and email)
Your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
Your income and employment details
The loan amount and purpose you're looking for
This information is shared with lenders in NerdWallet's network so they can determine whether to extend a pre-qualified offer to you.
Who receives your information
NerdWallet is a financial marketplace, not a lender. When you submit your information, it is shared with third-party lending partners — not held exclusively by NerdWallet. Those lenders may use your information to contact you about their products.
Why lenders may contact you
After you submit your information through NerdWallet's pre-qualification tool, lenders whose offers you view may reach out by phone, email, or text. This is a standard part of the lending process — NerdWallet does not control the volume or timing of lender outreach.
NerdWallet does not sell your personal data in exchange for payment. Information is shared with lenders for the specific purpose of matching you with loan offers you've requested.
How to opt out or reduce lender contact
You have several options to limit how your information is used and reduce unsolicited outreach:
Opt out of prescreened credit offers at optoutprescreen.com or by calling 1-888-567-8688.
Register your phone number with the National Do Not Call Registry at donotcall.gov.
Requesting deletion of your data
You can request that NerdWallet delete your personal information from its systems. To submit a request, contact NerdWallet Support through the in-app chat or help center.
Once your deletion request is processed, NerdWallet will no longer share your data with lending partners going forward. Note that lenders who already received your information prior to deletion may retain it subject to their own privacy policies.
Your rights under California privacy law (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), including:
The right to know what personal information NerdWallet has collected about you and how it is used or shared.
The right to delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information.
The right to correct inaccurate personal information.
The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.
To exercise any of these rights, contact NerdWallet Support. NerdWallet is required to respond to verified requests within 45 days, with the option to extend by an additional 45 days if needed. You will receive written confirmation once your request has been processed.
NerdWallet does not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA/CPRA rights. Exercising these rights will not affect your ability to use NerdWallet's services.
