How much does it cost for Billshark to negotiate my bills?
If Billshark is unable to find any savings, then you will not be charged for the service. For any savings that are found, NerdWallet has negotiated a special rate for our members only: 35% of your savings from your first year. (To compare, regular Billshark members are charged 40% of their savings from their first two years).
As an example, if your savings total up to be $100 in your first year, and another $100 in your second year, Billshark will take just $35 (35% of your first year savings) as a negotiation fee.
Savings may only be found for one year or may be higher in the first year than in subsequent years.

What if I change my mind and want to cancel the Billshark negotiations?
As a reminder, Billshark will never change or extend your contract without your permission.
If you want to cancel your request, email Billshark at email@example.com within 24 hours after submitting your bill information. After 24 hours, negotiations will have started, and you’ll be unable to make any changes.
Can I negotiate my own bills instead of having Billshark do it?
The short answer is, yes - you can contact your service providers directly.
That being said, studies have shown that it generally takes an average person at least 30 minutes to negotiate a single bill on their own. It can also take additional legwork to know if you’re getting the best rates and current promotions.
This means that having several bills might take you upwards of hours to negotiate.

How long does the Billshark negotiation process take?
Billshark takes an average of 3-5 business days to finish negotiating a bill. You’ll receive a notification once negotiations have been completed. In the meantime, you can check on the progress by logging into your NerdWallet account.
What is the PIN that Billshark is asking for?
Certain providers might have required that you set up a PIN number with them for added security. If you have one, we encourage you to provide it, as it can help speed up the bill negotiation process.
Why does Billshark need my social security number?
Billshark requires information such as the last 4 digits of your social security number, as well as your date of birth, in order to verify your identity with your provider, and to be able to negotiate on your behalf. Billshark takes your privacy and data security seriously and will never share your info without your permission.
Will Billshark switch providers or change my contract?
Billshark will never switch your provider or make any changes in your contract without your explicit permission.
I don’t see Billshark’s negotiated price reduction on my bill. What should I do?

What happens if I change or cancel my contract with my provider after Billshark has negotiated my rates?

How does Billshark keep my information safe?
Billshark employs bank-level 128-bit encryption. Your information is only used to verify your identity with the provider, or to contact you in the event Billshark needs additional information from you. Billshark takes your privacy and data security seriously, and will never share your information without your permission.
What happens if no savings are found by Billshark?
If Billshark is unable to find you any savings, you will not be charged for anything!
When do I pay Billshark?
After Billshark has found your savings, you’ll receive a follow-up email from them with a link to their payment page. You’ll have an option of paying the entire amount at once, or in 6 month installments for an extra $9 total.
How will I receive my discounted rate from Billshark negotiations?
After Billshark has confirmed with you that they’ve successfully negotiated down your bill, your new price will be reflected on your bill from your provider, usually in the next billing cycle.
What should I expect if I want Billshark to negotiate my bills?
After getting an estimate on how much you can potentially save, you’ll be asked to provide some of your bill details so that Billshark can contact your provider on your behalf. It takes roughly 3-5 business days for negotiations to be completed, after which you’ll receive an email notification with full details on savings, as well as an invoice from Billshark.
