Worth the money to transfer travel points

My husband is no longer able to travel and is looking into transferring 100,000 United Airlines travel points to our granddaughter's account.  This will cost $1,500.00.  Is this worthwhile doing versus paying for a ticket when she wants to visit us?  ALL her travel would be in the US, so no need to consider the involved bounce around the world trips that can save you money. 

When I inquired with Nerd Wallet, I was referred me to several articles on travel points.  None of which helped us to answer the question. 

Any suggestions?

  these points are worth about the same money you have to pay to transfer them. Basically they are making you buy the points back at face value. I don't see any reason to do that. If the annual fee isn't too much of a burden, keep the card and buy her tickets when wanted.
