Optimize Travel Rewards Cards
I need help deciding the best credit cards to apply for given my travel needs and lifestyle.
I live in New Jersey and plan on traveling to Mexico City 1x per year with my wife and two young children.
I also plan on staying at a Holiday Inn Express in the Philadelphia suburbs 6-8 nights per year visiting family for holidays.
For work travel, I generally fly American and stay at a Hilton branded hotel 1-2 nights 2x/year. I use an Amex Corporate Green Card for work and have an option to keep the MR points for an additional $50/year. I also have an option to apply for a personal gold card at a discount rate of $150/year or a platinum card for $550/year.
With so many options, I really don't know what to do. I'm leaning towards opting into the Gold card because I do alot of supermarket shopping. I'm also considering the hilton aspire card because of all of its.
I took Nerd Wallet's recommendation quiz and it resulted in the IHG Rewards Premier card as the top choice, and considered the Amex Gold card not a match. However, given the significant discount on the yearly fee from my work, would it have changed the results?
How do I decide?
