When does late student loan payment come off credit report if reported in 2015 and again in 2017?
Hello NerdWallet Friends,
I am wondering when the late payments on my student loans will come off of my credit score. I am pretty close to achieving an excellent credit score from all 3 bureaus and the only negatives on my current report are old late payments for student loans reported in 2015 and then again in 2017. I have twelve closed accounts and 8 of them say reported late in January 2015, February 2015 and September 2015, meaning I must have gotten current between March and August 2015. The other 4 accounts were reported as late August 2015, September 2015 and February 2017. So my question is, do these late payments disappear 7 years after they were first reported or 7 years after they were reported the second time: January 2022 or September 2022 (the first set of 8 loans) and (the second set of 4 loans) August 2022 or February 2024?
Eager for these to come off since I have made such progress with my finances!

Hi there, thanks for the question! I have a resource from our content that addresses the life of derogatory marks, including missed payments. In a nutshell, those things can remain on your credit for 7 to 10 years, unfortunately. But keep up the good work as your current history plays a more important part!
