    Hi Jill,

This can be a tricky situation to figure out! In general, if you pay an account in collections in full, it will show up on your credit report as “paid,” but it won’t disappear. In fact, you should expect it to remain on your report for seven years. The good news is that it will impact your score less and less over time - newer credit activity is weighted more heavily than older information.

Additionally, paying off collections accounts can benefit you by avoiding legal action, avoiding additional interest and fees, and more.

Attempt to pay the bill in full, directly to the utility, If you do this, the collection account should disappear from your report.
