Student credit card verses authorized user
Our son recently turned 18 and will be starting college in the fall. Wondering if it is best for him to have his own credit card in case of emergencies or just add him as an authorized user on ours. He will also have a student loan for college in the fall so not sure if that hurts or helps establishing his credit history.

Adding him as an authorized user to a $0 balance due card is actually more beneficial to his score because it also applies athe account age to his profile, not just an available balance like a new card would. it also likely has a higher credit limit than he could get for himself.
however, if your account has a balance due, or if you use it regularly yourself, you could have negative impact on his score because he is assuming your payments/debt.
