How to best redeem AMEX Platinum Miles for flights

I have watched videos on how much of a difference point redemption can be by sometimes converting them to delta partners and what not. I will be flying to Bangkok Thailand on November 22 and there Korean Air is about $800 more expensive but is a Delta partner. Qatar airways doesn't appear to be but is the cheaper option. I have about 650,000 Amex points racked up and would like to know the best way to handle this. I have never redeemed points before and wasn't sure if it was a certain, set amount for international tickets or if it was dollar based but if someone could help me figure out the best way to redeem these, that would be great!
