Credit Score creditor dam

I had a fall that injured my back, 19% permanent disability, and could no longer work due to extreme pain. I notified all my creditors and that I had no income and had to wait at least 6 months to apply for disability. I requested to reage my minimum due and remove past due reported to the credit bureaus. I was able to pay a little on each then set up auto payments. I started to get current, paying more than the past due and paid off many. But... as soon as they were paid off ,with still having a credit limit available to use, they would CLOSE the account!!! My score was going up while paying on-time each month then, they when they closed the account, my score had drastically dropped every time by making the ratio look really bad!!! How can they do this??? I'm trying to improve my credit but they are destroying it!! I can't get ahead, how is this ok??? If I don't pay I get past due, or worse collections reported, which ruins my score, but... if I pay on-time and they are paid in full, they close the account and my score gets worse!!! Either way, my credit is ruined, I am so upset and it's very depressing and discouraging:( Anyone have any suggestions on how to stop this?? Or end this see-saw of going up 6 points then dropping 15 or more?? Please help!!!!
