Best card to charge hotels and air travel directly

I try to locate the best credit card, no annual fee, to charge directly hotel stays and air travel. I use different cards for different purposes, depending on the rewards.

I tried the chase freedom for hotel charge, and found out that they upcharge 6+% when you use (mandatory to get the rewards) their travel agency. When I asked why, the agent admitted candidly that it was to offset the 5% rewards. All things considered I would have paid more using that channel. I cancelled, and paid the hotel directly with a wells fargo active cash who give 2% on everything.

Basically I try to see if I can do better. I am often surprised at the recommendations of the site, about cards that give lesser rewards (1%-1.5%). Maybe I am missing something.

  That's a great question!

  Since you specified that there must not be any annual fee, I suggest comparing these cards:

  Currently there are 12 different cards included, and they all indicate having introductory offers.
