The rating shown for each credit factor is based on TransUnion's own rating system. TransUnion’s system rates having five or fewer open accounts as "poor;” however, this won’t necessarily have a dramatic negative effect on your credit score. Keep in mind that multiple factors go into a credit report, and “number of accounts” has much less of an impact on your credit score than other factors, like your payment history and credit utilization ratio.

If you have questions about a specific mark or account on your credit report, we recommend that you contact TransUnion directly. For general questions about how credit scores work, feel free to chat with us or email support@nerdwallet.com. We’re happy to help!
