Your credit score is not impacted in any way when you use NerdWallet’s personal loan pre-qualification form. When you submit the pre-qualification form, our lending partners perform a soft inquiry to determine if you are eligible for a pre-qualified personal loan offer.
Note that if you complete NerdWallet's pre-qualification form and then proceed to fill out a full application on a lender's website, this will result in a hard inquiry on your credit report, which can in turn result in a decrease to your score. This is typical of applying for any loan or line of credit.
If you do not qualify for any loans through our pre-qualification form, one or more of our lending partners may send you an adverse action notice. The purpose of this notice is to formally let you know that your pre-qualification application was not approved. Don’t be alarmed if you receive an adverse action notice — it’s just a formality, and does not mean that a hard review of your credit was performed.
